As Chief Medical Officer and Head of the Medical and Development organization, Dr. Tadaaki Taniguchi is responsible for overseeing a global team striving to identify, discover and develop treatments with the potential to reshape expectations of medical care. This includes multiple divisions focused on developing innovative and patient-centric treatments and ensuring their appropriate and safe use throughout the product’s life cycle, including Data Science, Development in key Primary Focus areas (BioPharma, Cell & Gene Therapy, Oncology, Immuno-Oncology), Clinical Operations, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance and Strategy and Operations.

Tadaaki has over 20 years of industry experience spanning research, development and medical affairs. He has worked across a range of therapy areas including diabetes and oncology to deliver life-changing medicines to patients. Prior to joining Astellas, Tadaaki held senior roles in major multinational pharmaceutical companies in the US, Japan and China operating at global and regional levels and most recently served as Senior Vice President, Head of Global Medical Affairs, Oncology Business Unit at AstraZeneca.
Tadaaki earned his Doctor of Medicine from Tottori University, Japan and completed a Ph.D. in Medicine at Imperial College, London. As a surgical oncologist, he spent 10 years working in clinics and research laboratories, contributing to his unique perspective on how global pharma can create and deliver breakthrough science that can change the way diseases are treated.
